Fuel Problem with 72 Beetle - LoveBug - 10-17-2009 07:15 PM I have a really bad problem with my fuel system. When I first start up it works fine but after the engine has warmed up really good it starts missing (spitting and sputtering) and then it dies. When it does this it acts like the fuel pump is out or the line is clogged up. But after it cools down a little bit it will start right up. I replaced the fuel pump but nothing has changed! Any help or advice would be much appreciated! RE: Fuel Problem with 72 Beetle - OldStyle - 10-18-2009 06:57 PM I had this same problem on an old bug. I think what you are experiencing is Vapor lock: Vapor lock (also known as vapour lock) is a problem that mostly affects gasoline-fueled internal combustion engines. It occurs when the liquid fuel changes state from liquid to gas while still in the fuel delivery system. This disrupts the operation of the fuel pump, causing loss of feed pressure to the carburetor or fuel injection system, resulting in transient loss of power or complete stalling. Restarting the engine from this state may be difficult. The fuel can vaporise due to being heated by the engine, by the local climate or due to a lower boiling point at high altitude. In regions where higher volatility fuels are used during the winter to improve the starting of the engine, the use of "winter" fuels during the summer can cause vapor lock to occur more readily. source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vapor_lock RE: Fuel Problem with 72 Beetle - LoveBug - 10-18-2009 07:47 PM Hey thanks! I will check into that |
